North Carolina is a special place, blessed with beautiful and productive land and
waters, from our ancient green mountains to our dynamic coastal islands. Yet our
clean air, water, and natural resources are under growing stress.
At the same time, the human needs and economic stresses on our people have never been greater. Public health, education, growing cities, shifting economy, a changing increasingly diverse population, and the need to promote opportunity for all our people, call for our attention. Both our land and our people demand responsible stewardship.
Unfortunately, the 2010 election cycle was not good for responsible leaders in our state. Many of our best legislators lost their seats, and the new General Assembly is under the leadership of those with short sight and a narrow vision of our future.
Those of us involved with efforts like the Headwaters Campaign are working now to prepare for the 2012 elections. We will be undertaking a major push to return North Carolina to responsible legislative leadership.
